This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How many times have you had to read something because your teacher made you and it was boring? I have selected these books for my students because of high interest and they have text to self connections.
I work with students in small groups who have been identified as needing Reading or Math Interventions!
My school is a science/math/technology magnet which is located in the Southeast Community of Newport News. 95% of our students receive free and reduced lunch.
My students have a strong desire to learn and are motivated to do well. However, due to economic circumstance they do not have access to as many resources as others. They are school dependent children who often find calm and comfort within the walls of our building!
My Project
The headsets will be used to allow students to record themselves while reading. They will be able to hear themselves as they read and can practice fluency, phrasing and pronunciation.
The books will be used in small groups. We will read through the text together and probe each other to check for understanding. We will also be able to discuss topics through a blog.
The goal is to inspire my students to become lovers of reading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This project will make a direct impact on the learning of students who are often labeled At-Risk.
I hope to help them become At-risk for being successful while serving as positive role models for others.
