My Students
Come mid-August, I'll begin my journey as a first-year Kindergarten teacher with LAUSD. My school is a very culturally diverse and vibrant community that has changed dramatically over the course of the past few years. The school is a dual-immersion school, which means that I will have two groups of 24 kindergarteners (that's 48 total!) who will be learning in English for half the day (with me!) and in Spanish for the other half.
I'm so excited, a bit nervous, and deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve such a special group of students.
But, as is common in many public schools, but particularly in LAUSD, much of the funding and resources must come from teachers, community members, parents/caregivers, and families. Since many of my students come from low-income or middle class households, I am hoping you will look over this project I've put together and donate what you can. My dream is to provide my students with technology, tools, and critical-thinking skills to prepare them for the complex and ever-changing world we live in today.
My Project
I am desperate to give my students (particularly my English language learners) access to technology so they can begin their school experience with integrated learning from the get-go.
Technology will allow me to consistently differentiate my instruction and assessments, provide endless math and literacy games and resources, and allow for at-home collaboration with Google Classroom.
Above all, I want my students to have access to technology so they are expert users from the start of their educational careers. Being exposed to technology in the classroom is the very first step. I plan to use these six Chromebooks as a learning center, where groups of students can engage and create multimedia projects, collaborate on documents, and use programs (like Raz Kids) to enrich their reading through visual and auditory means. I'd also like to provide technology so my students can do work around Critical Media Literacy—looking at, dissecting, and creating visual media that addresses social justice themes.
