Tech Tools To Make Learning Easier

Help me give my students a wireless mouse for each of the Chromebooks that they use and a wireless speaker for the computer so that they can hear videos and programs better from the computer.

My Students

My students are absolutely wonderful! They are so excited to be coming back to school this year after struggling with the confusion and setbacks caused by the COVID pandemic last year. Our students are from rural areas and some come from poor socioeconomic backgrounds. After a year where some were taught virtually and some came two days a week while others came four days last year, it has all been one huge mess that we are battling to overcome and catch-up academically. We know that we have a tremendous job in front of us this year and I want to make sure that I give my students every opportunity to learn while also having fun with the concepts they need to learn and master. I teach all levels of students PreK-5 as the school librarian and along with library skills/research, I teach reading skills and comprehension concepts to students from diverse backgrounds and many levels. I have some students who are autistic, have ADD/ADHD, gifted students, etc. As I work with the different abilities of my students, I want to bring in more resources for them to use to help them learn about the world around them using technology tools.

My Project

Sometimes using technology is difficult for my younger students. For example, when they use Chromebooks, it is hard for them to manipulate the touchpad mouse and trying to hear videos and programs from the teacher computer with the built-in speakers is almost impossible for the whole class. People sitting near the front can hear, but not the students sitting in the back.

What good is technology if you struggle to use it?

That's why we need enough wireless mice so that there is one for each Chromebook and a good wireless speaker for the main computer. With these tools in place, the younger students would especially be more attentive and more successful using the technology we have in place. They will be able to be more successful using the Chromebooks we have to access programs and activities that reinforce skills and concepts that are being taught in the classroom.
