My Project

As a New York City teacher with over 15 years in the field of Humanities/Special Education, this year I will be working with some of the most struggling readers. As part of learning how to meet the needs of middle school readers whose skills are far behind their same age peers, I am being trained to use Acadience Reading. Learning this new assessment program has been a humbling experience as I interface with more tech than I’m usually comfortable with! Using a touch screen Chromebook last year to start this new phase of my professional development was challenging because it kept glitching and my student data was often inaccurate. The iPad I’m seeking support to purchase will help me get more accurate data, and help me learn more about how to interpret with precision what my students need to keep growing as readers. Having worked with my personal iPad in trainings, I know this tool will better serve me and my students; having a reliable touch screen device is an essential tool for using this online platform. I hope to make the interventions more targeted to specific learning needs with this tool. Your support will help some of NYC’s most vulnerable students grow into strong, independent readers! The case is so I can be mobile and worry free, because I am a bit of a butterfingers!
