This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Currently my class has 1 iPad to go around for over 30 students and 1 teacher, so using it effectively in the classroom is a challenge. Our goal to get at least one iPad per student team so it can become a tool rather than a trial.

Our school is a inner city public school with a math, science, and technology focus.

The technology component is key for my students as so few of them have access to technology at home. My class is a student centered environment that focus on inquiry, working as a team, and working in multiple languages.

My Project

My students need an iPad to increase their access to the tools of technology. iPads are such a versatile tool that we will use in many ways. The start the year, in our study of chemistry students will be able to interact with the periodic table and models of molecules through various educational apps. Following that the students will conduct experiments, recording video of their experiments, creating graphs of their data with a spreadsheet application, and they will finish up their study by creating a graphic model of what occurs in a chemical reaction. Truly, there are so many possibilities and uses, this is just the beginning. Having iPads available will enable the students to review what they missed and to probe deeper into the areas that pique their interests.

By allowing students regular access to the device, they will be able to attain a comfort level with the technology that will lead to a significant increase in their technological literacy.

Moreover, allowing students to control how and when they receive information will increase their access to content. Too often students are at the mercy of the instructor.
