Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Student participation is critical throughout the day. It can be used to check for understanding, relationship building and give students a sense of ownership in the classroom. Student participation come in multiple forms. Through the raising of hands, collaboration with peers or simply using a voice to answer a question.
What happens if you have no voice to communicate with?
I work with non verbal students that have Autism. Often times, it is difficult for them to communicate and express their needs. I see the eagerness and motivation to participate with the class but this comes with many limitation. The use of AAC derives in the classroom can help non- verbal students not only participate in class but feel confident in their ability to communicate. AAC devices are tools that can enable students to work with their peers more effectively, communication questions or answers to the curriculum and overall help improve student learning.
