Tech + STEM + Students = Life, School And Career Success!

My students need two Acer Chromebook computers.

My Students

My fifth grade classroom has no computers! Imagine this lack for my students who desperately need technology skills to further their life goals. No computers at school each day or at home spells disaster in terms of succeeding in school. Technology skills are imperative for school success!

My multiethnic, multicultural fifth grade classroom of thirty-one students is in a K-8 urban low income high need school of thirty-six languages.

My request for computers is not only necessary, but critical to answer my students' dreams of furthering their education. With only one computer lab and twenty-six classrooms vying for time, it is literally impossible to access the lab on a regular predictable time frame. My students will be exposed to required online statewide assessments this year - milestones for their academic success. Imagine their devastation at not typing it efficiently or effectively, which will greatly impact their scores. Not to mention, research skills are vital to their success academically as well. Typing and online research accessibility for the content areas of science, social studies and math will strengthen their capabilities if I had computers for use every day. I am driven to provide the best for my students and you can become that essential link for academic success.

My Project

Imagine the power of students turning a rich discussion into even more by morphing their amazing questions into answers in an instant. With classroom access to these two Acer Chromebook laptop computers my students will be able to take their deep thinking to an all new level by finding answers at their fingertips. Researching what they want to know will spur them on to deeper questioning, and higher levels of learning. I want these computers to empower my students to be able to take the questions from their science, math, reading, and STEM tasks, and immediately explore for answers to those burning questions and fantastic insights. Given the socioeconomic status of my population, I want to capitalize on that moment and have the computers at the ready. If they have to wait until they get home, will they be able to access a computer? Will the complications and struggles of their daily lives get in the way? I want to take the stress and strain of these elements out of the picture and maximize what they can do here.

Basically, I am requesting these two Acer Chromebook computers because my room has none and with the school being a K8 it is almost impossible to get computer lab time.

I want to use technology for science and math projects, research skills across content areas, computer skills practice, plus writing. These two computers would be the starting point for my fifth grade students who so vitally need access to technology. You can provide the necessary link to so much academic success for my high need population!
