My Students
My biology class consists of 13 students, all of whom receive support through their Individualized Education Plan to further their academic success. 10 of the students are freshmen, 1 is a sophomore, and 2 are seniors. All of these students attend public school in San Francisco.
My students have a wonderful senses of humor, which they apply to academic tasks to help cement their learning.
Although they struggle with the grade-level readings provided by the district, they ask insightful questions about content matter and are learning to develop skills to improve their reading comprehension. They have very much enjoyed the few hands-on activities that we have been able to do this year, as well as the limited number of leveled readings that I have been able to find for free to supplement the curriculum material.
My Project
Recently, my class experimented with a new lesson style which required that students bring their headphones from home. Unfortunately, some students, who only had one pair of headphones, discovered that their headphones did not work with the school chromebooks.
As schools and lessons become more and more intertwined with new technologies, some old school hardware is sometimes necessary for students to access their work.
A class set of headphones, one for each student and 2 extras so that students with para educator support can share audio with their para educators, would be helpful. Also, audio splitters would have made our recent lesson run so much more smoothly. The students loved the lesson format, but they struggled with accessing it because we didn't have the right hardware.
