Tech Smart

My students need the Nook Tablet to help with learning the alphabet and numbers in a fun and engaging way with modern technology.

My Students

As I was riding down the street I saw a sign that said we have iPads for all students on campus. We only have 2 computers and I thought about how my students would love to read books, practice their alphabet and numbers on a tablet that they could place in their hands, choose an app and learn.

My students are in an elementary Title 1 school with 98% of the students on free or reduced lunch.

My students love to explore, touch, ask questions and try to do things on their own. They always want to get on the computer and go to sites that offer activities that they can learn from.

My Project

My students have limited access to technology at home. After a survey of the class of 18, only 5 had computers at home and none had any other type of technology but they did say they played games on a cell phone. The acquisition of the tablet will give them an opportunity to learn with the new technology that is available. The bright colors, hands on learning and engaging sounds will make learning fun for them. Our county has a large drop out rate. I would like to start with my young students to help them get a great start on learning to read and write so that they can have a wonderful learning experience in school and find that learning can be fun. The alphabet and number apps will give them a chance to practice skills learned during whole class instruction. The books will give them a chance to listen to stories, gain background knowledge and develop a love for reading.

Every child is important and every moment of their school day is important.

School should be engaging and the technology available should be used to help students stay engaged in learning. A donation to my class will make a difference because it will provide my students with another avenue to learn while they use an engaging, hands on tool to help reinforce skills that are necessary for success in future grades.
