Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves students in grades PK-6th and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our school is full of diverse students who come from different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. As a teacher in the OKC school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My kindergartners have different abilities in reading, writing, and math.

My Project

With growing class sizes, I am in need of 2 more tablets. Tablets help students interact in large and small groups throughout the day. During large group, we use the tablets to share interactive stories. There are numerous interactive books that everyone would be able to enjoy. Students are able to hear new stories every day for DEAR time, instead of the same old collection. There are many apps for tablets that will give my students independent practice in reading, writing, and math. We can also connect our tablets to our computer/projector for whole group instruction. In small group instruction, we would be able to practice letter tracing and writing. There are endless applications that allow the students to interact with sight words and practice letter sounds and math facts. The list goes on for opportunities that the students are able to achieve through technology.

Students are intrigued by technology and the opportunity for learning is endless.

Tablets keep my students excited and engaged in their learning. It will prepare them for a future of using technology. I will be able to use these tablets each year with my students to enhance their learning.
