My Students

My junior high students are thrilled to learn mathematical topics from a hands-on, technological approach. They engage in collaborative teams multiple times during a unit in order to work on challenging problem sets and critical thinking questions.

Through working in groups, my students challenge each other academically and learn team building.

This only enhances the ability to master the mathematical content that is taught to them in lecture, because they get to personally experience the "problem solving" process, instead of just writing content down.

My Project

My junior high math students love when I integrate technology into their lessons. We use technology not to "DO" the problem for us, but rather as a "MEANS" of exploring deeper and more challenging problems. This helps the students to learn problem solving methods and ultimately build their critical thinking skills while working in collaborative teams on the problems at hand.

Having technology that is appropriate for their age and ability level will allow them to adequately develop a deeper understanding of the content at hand.

This will ultimately build problem solving skills and the "growth" mindset that is so necessary for success at the junior high level.
