Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I remember when I first used a cell phone and how I was awed by its minimal abilities! Today these technologies reach far beyond making a phone call. Students come into the classroom eager and excited to use such pieces that aren't readily available. I want to mesh their "tech savvy" with learning!
Like most schools, ours is suffering budget cuts, where "extras" are not on the priority list.
However, our campus is strong, and our students are amazing! As a fourth grade teacher I have the wonderful opportunity to see children take learning into their own hands, become responsible for themselves, and discover a new sense of pride in their education. This is especially true for reading. My students are no longer learning to read, rather they are reading to learn. They acknowledge how critical and important being a successful reader is not only in academics, but in the world outside of the classroom.
My Project
With these resources, students will have multiple opportunities to integrate technology into their learning. A wireless listening center creates a mobile learning environment where children can work in a small group and not be forced to sit by the nearest outlet. Its recording abilities offer the group the option to listen to read alouds as well as create a discussion monitoring tool. The tablet offers students the ability to incorporate QR codes and Internet research in the classroom. The digital voice recorders will assist students as they improve their fluency. They can record themselves while reading a passage and then listen to the way they inflect words and the rate at which they read. Students can also record readers theaters and book talks to share with others. The digital cameras give students another way to integrate technology with learning. Students can video record presentations, plays, poetry, and others to share with the class, school, and parents.
Everyday, new technologies with the ability to support student learning in the classroom are introduced.
It is my hope to utilize some of these technologies and allow the "tech savvy" side of my students to help strengthen their academic side. These resources allow students at any level, to take ownership in their learning. They can be active participants and assist in their progress throughout the year. These technologies offer real world experiences and connections with classroom learning.
