Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse kids from different countries in Latin America. Our school is located in a low-income area in Texas, and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. My students are all bilingual students who are still recovering from the devastation that was caused earlier last year by Hurricane Harvey. Not many of them were directly affected by the hurricane, but a few students did experience flooding and were forced to move to a different apartment. Because of the trauma they have experienced, I want to create an environment where they feel safe. I want them to look forward to coming to school and to feel completely engaged in all the learning activities.
Many of my students come to school hungry and tired on a daily basis.
This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school almost daily with very low energy. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright.
My Project
My students have been blessed this school year with the kindness of many generous donors. They have received so many materials that have helped increase their learning. All of my students have grown in all subject area and this wouldn't have been possible without the kindness of the donors. Hurricane Harvey was very traumatic for my students but now it is a thing of the past. They come to school excited and enthusiastic on a daily basis.
I am requesting an iPad to continue to expand my student's knowledge in reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
My students will benefit greatly with an extra Ipad in the classroom because they can use it to practice their reading through Istation. They will also use the Ipad to learn about different types of animals by researching about these animals on Pebblego. Splashmath will help my students practice and improve their adding and subtracting skills. Finally, they will learn about different communities in social studies by using google maps and google earth.
