Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Sixth grade performing arts students, what more can you ask for? All of my students play an instrument that the school provides and take a Spanish class. Students get such a broad range of curriculum at our school! My students strive to do their best at all times given their low socioeconomic status.
I teach 6th grade at a performing arts and foreign language school.
All students in school are enrolled in band and are also taking an elective related to the arts.
All of our students are also taking Spanish. We have a very well-rounded curriculum that we offer students. Our school puts on big war re-enactments each year in the field to help students gain an understanding of what really happened. I teach in a very low income area where students do not have access to technology at home, so the only technology they are exposed to is at school. My students are very grateful for what is offered to them at school so they come to school so excited and motivated every day.
My Project
We are requesting a speaker because when we are watching our digital media creations, we cannot hear the sound that students have put in them. They have created screencasts, one-minute movies based on the books they have read, and many presentations! We are also requesting an Echo. We can get real-time access to supplemental information that can enhance understanding or background information on a particular topic at the drop of a hat! My students also need an instant camera with film to document their progress on their Genius Hour projects. They will keep these in a folder to show their accomplishments and findings. The Apple Watch will be worn by the student of the day, but will also be used by students to control their keynote presentations and to control their Dash and Dot robots by using the coding app. The student of the day will be in charge of the CNN app to give us our daily information on the current election. It will buzz on their wrist alerting them when breaking news occurs.
These donations will improve my classroom by maximizing student learning.
We do a lot of technology work in my classroom on Chromebooks, but this will improve and change student lives so much because they will have access to so many different resources as I listed above. They will have evidence to support their educational findings and be able to get information at a moments notice.
