This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in a blended VPK/Pre-K special education classroom. They are adorable kids, ages 3-5, that are eager to learn. They love story time and learning through play.

Our kindergarten students usually start school already behind their non-economically disadvantaged peers.

About 60% of our incoming students are also learning to speak English. The goal of our Pre-K special needs program is to give our students the early intervention services they need so they can be in the least restrictive environment when they go to kindergarten, with a goal of participating in regular education classes.

Our Pre-K students are identified with developmental delays, speech and language delays, down syndrome, autism, and other health impairments. The majority of them are just learning to talk, and some are learning to walk with assistance. My students need hands-on learning materials to help them learn readiness skills through play.

I am in need of an iPad so my students can work on pre-readiness skills. The case will protect the iPad for years of learning. Over 80% of my students are English-language learners and living in poverty, with 50% of them also being developmentally delayed, autistic or language impaired. The interactive games will reach all my learners with visuals and fun activities that will help them learn the skills they need to be successful in kindergarten.
