Tech for Tiny Hands

My students need one iPad (with a protective case), 6 pairs of headphones, and 2 Chromebooks to work on their differentiated activities, document their work in portfolios, and practice 21st century research skills.

My Students

Our kindergarten class is a family. Each day they are greeted with a hug, and each day they are sent home with a hug. My children know that they are loved and safe when they are in my classroom. Just like a family, we have been through ups and downs together. After Hurricane Harvey hit, we grieved together as a community. When snow came to Texas for the first time in nine years, we celebrated and embraced it by making snow angels!

As a transitioning Title 1 school, our class is composed of 21 diverse learners, many of whom receive free or reduced lunch.

Each child brings their unique home experiences into our classroom every day, and they are responded to with compassion and love. The variety of languages spoken, economic backgrounds, and family arrangements is what has contributed to our strong sense of belonging and tolerance within our classroom.

My Project

The iPad will be used to document their work in the classroom to share with myself and their parents. Students are held accountable for their work, and are able to take pride in their work when they have an avenue to document and share it! Seesaw (a digital portfolio app) is used in our classroom to take pictures and record our voices to explain our thinking at literacy and math stations. The headphones will be used with the iPad to limit outside distractions when working.

Chromebooks are essential to further differentiate learning within our classroom walls.

Students will use the Chromebooks to develop the twenty first century skills that they need to excel in this ever-changing technological world. They will allow for more individualized learning during literacy and math centers to improve phonemic awareness and numeracy sense at the level the child needs. Chromebooks will also allow my children to create both independent and collaborative projects in order to show true understanding of concepts. They have already proved their technology capability when doing a research project on animals, and I cannot wait to see how much this added technology can support and extend their learning!
