My students are an energetic group of happy-go-lucky 4th and 5th graders. My school is a Title 1 school, with the majority of students being on free or reduced lunch. Despite their economic status, their desire to learn is strong. Most of my students are English Speakers of Other Languages and Migrant. They do not let their language barrier hold them back from achieving great things in and out of the classroom. They are a great, daily inspiration to me.
Today, so many of the jobs available are STEM related. In the future, there will be even more STEM related jobs as the industry of STEM, especially the area of technology grows.
Over 94% of my students are in high-poverty situations and most do not have home access to various forms of technology.
Therefore, it is my job not only to teach them standards based learning, but life skills needed for them to be successful in the future.
Having these 2 laptops will not only give my students the access they need to familiarize themselves with technology, but also to reinforce and practice skills we are learning in class on computer-based software.
