This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year at my school we have had a huge population of Newcomer students who are also Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs). Many of these students are coming from countries who were significantly impacted by COVID-19 and the lack of in-person learning during the pandemic. Many times they face unique challenges in adapting to a new language, culture, and country. My goal is to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that addresses their academic needs as well as their social-emotional needs.

Having a classroom iPad can enhance my Newcomer MLLs learning experience, promote engagement, and help them develop the necessary skills to succeed in an English-speaking environment.

Having an iPad can greatly support Newcomer MLLs in the classroom. iPads offer a wide range of educational apps and resources that can engage my students with visual and interactive learning experiences. With an iPad, I can customize learning materials to meet the individual needs of my students. I can create or download apps and resources that cater to different language proficiency levels, that will allow students to learn at their own pace and focus on areas they need to improve.

Additionally iPads can support my students who speak different native languages. There are translation apps available that will help my students translate words, phrases, or even entire texts from their native language to English and vice versa. This can assist students in understanding instructions, assignments, and classroom discussions.
