My Project

I teach in a Title I, PK-8 school in an urban setting. Almost all of our students are Spanish-speaking English Language Learners. What I love about music class is that my scholars can leave all their language concerns at the door and participate fully through the universal language of music. Every student this year has made progress in learning to play the piano, the hand bells or another instrument.

My middle school students would love to work with technology where they can integrate their musical skills with slideshow and video projects they are working on in other classes, and they would also benefit from an interactive program that will help them read, play and create music with color-coded hand bells, boomwhackers and Orff instruments.

My students need resources that honor and support their multicultural and multilingual learning experience. They are eager to use their new music skills to create cross-curricular projects, giving them a richer means of communicating and demonstrating their understanding that does not have to rely on words. This bundle includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor and Mainstage -- lots of resources for awesome projects and presentations in any of their subjects!

The color-coded interactive program and song resources simplify the process of learning to play and read music by scaffolding with color-coding. I have noticed that color-coding pitch eases the fear and frustration for all of my students, and especially for those whose days are filled with of interpreting unfamiliar systems of language, symbols and meaning. The requested items in this project also include multicultural songs, world music lessons, sub plans and other resources to support my students in learning to play and compose music together.
