Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 2nd-grade students attend an inner city school in Los Angeles. They are from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English Language Learners (ELL) with roots in Latin America. The neighborhood is currently gentrifying, so we are developing a diverse population with many types of needs.

We are a STEM magnet that caters to unique and motivated students in Los Angeles.

They love to learn and constantly challenge me to meet their unique needs and ignite their passion for learning.

The school is 100 years old and we have multiple generations of students who have attended the school. Although the neighborhood is changing, many of the families remain the same.

My Project

My second grade students need new computers for learning. Students engage in many programs online that aid in their learning. We use computers for basic word processing skills. Students use computers for reinforcing their math skills. Teachers use a computer based program to help with analyzing reading skills. We are a STEM school so we use computers for learning how to code. Our current computers are more than 15 years old and cannot handle the programs of today. They often crash and do not allow us to get very far on our learning. New computers will launch our kids into the 21st Century.
