Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Research shows that technology and engaging lessons in Special Education classrooms are proving to be productive. Technology with the use of interactive lessons helps keep children engaged in their lessons. Children with special needs respond well to technology. Without a doubt, a MacBook and printer would benefit our special education classroom!
My school is a Title I school that is located in Los Angeles County where most of our students come from low-income households.
A full 93% of the students receive free lunch. My students are not only diverse in their cultural backgrounds but also in their learning styles. My class is a special education class with a large number of English learners. My students are in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. My students need extra support to be able to learn and be successful. They are visual and kinesthetic learners who learn with hands-on materials such as manipulatives and through technology. Despite hardships and challenges, my students show perseverance.
My Project
English Language Learners are increasing in number and are an important focus in my special education class. With the addition of a MacBook to our classroom, my students will be able to use technology in a new way. A MacBook will open up doors for the diverse visual and kinesthetic learners in my classroom. The MacBook and printer will become tools to help create authentic learning especially with my Autistic and English Language Learner students. Technology is the ideal tool to help support these learners.
Any technology in the classroom can assist in differentiating learning and strengthening language skills to ensure success.
Some of the tools that we will use in our classroom will include programs such as iMovie and Keynote, and we will have access to the internet. This will be made available on the MacBook to differentiate learning for students who do not speak English or who have speech delays.
The wide variety of learning materials and apps available will keep my students engaged and excited about learning.
