My students need technology so that they can create their own music, their own projects and for assessment. Having tablets will allow for more individualized lessons for children who are at different skill levels.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are mostly of Chinese and Hispanic descent. Our school has a large English as a Second Language, and English as a New Language population. Music is a great way for them to connect and to express themselves. We aim to offer and teach the students what they may not have access to outside of the school. Learning to play an instrument teaches focus, discipline, and confidence. Playing in an ensemble teaches cooperation and compromise. Thinking long term, learning to read, write, and play music opens the door for scholarships and careers down the road.
My Project
This project is solely for the purpose of bringing technology into our music classroom. At the moment our class is a tech-free class which means there is a lot we can't do with the students yet. We have Quaver in our school which is an amazing music program but cannot be fully utilized unless we have tablets for the students.
We want the students to have the ability to work at their own pace, learn at their own pace.
Tablets will allow for more one on one assessment, will allow each student to create music at their own level, and allows for us to give each child a lesson catered to them.
