This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am always thinking to myself, how can I help my students? What can I give them to ease their frustrations? All I want for my students is to be successful and competent learners. I want them to enjoy reading and writing as much as I do and want them to feel at ease doing so.
I am a special-ed, 6th grade ELA teacher, in an integrated co-teaching setting, which means that my students are a mixture of general education students as well as special needs students.
Our school is located in a low income neighborhood and many of our students cannot afford the "specialty" items needed to be successful in school. This is what my project is all about. Yes, they have paper, pencils, notebooks and backpacks, all the necessary requirements, however my special needs students truly need items such as weighted pencils to help them write and learn to build stamina. Feel successful, not give up, to know that everyone ones deserves equal opportunities but in a different way!
My Project
I envision these resources helping my special needs students to grow and learn, "just like the other kids in my classroom." I have kids with ADHD as well as other disabilities and to have these specialty items to offer to them would make all the difference. They would be able to fidget less by using manipulative to keep their hands busy while their minds learn, to build up muscles in their hands and not get tired would make them feel proud of themselves, to not give up!
As stated before, your donations will help to improve my students education in a positive way.
To not get frustrated with writing, to be able to have a working mind while their hands are occupied. To not get into trouble because they couldn't sit still or finish an assignment. That is what this project will do for my special needs students!
