Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low-income, high-poverty district with a high percentage of English Language Learners (ELLs). The school continues to fill in the learning gaps and strives to make gains. The staff and administration are working diligently to turn the school around. This includes an extended school day with intensive coursework and testing for students. It is very important to me that my students' daily experiences be engaging, positive, and productive.

My students are from diverse backgrounds and suffer traumatic situations.

I'm trying to make the best of this remote teaching/learning situation by creating lively lessons.

My Project

The table and chairs from this project will allow my students to sit comfortably while working with their peers. I am slowly acquiring tables for my students to replace old classroom desks. The table will allow my students opportunities to collaborate with each other in a safe and friendly environment.

My students have been remote for over a year and this school year we are back in person.

Being home for a year changed the way kids interact with each other. We have to work daily on social skills and teamwork. I hope this table and chairs will foster that type of work.
