My school is located in a low socioeconomic area with very limited resources. The population is 30% special needs and has a blend of different races and ethnicities. The majority of our students are on free or reduced lunch.
The kids inspire me to come to work every day!
Many are trying to rise above the challenges of poverty in their life (parents in prison, single-parent homes, parents working two jobs just to pay the bills) and use education as a means to improve the quality of their lives. These kids still look at education as fun and are enthusiastic learners. They are always asking about how things work or why events happen. The school is doing well test wise, but our district budget continues to be cut, which means little to no field trips or memorable Homecomings and Prom. We need to have more experiences for our school community and in the classroom to make up for the loss of experiences that students living in the suburbs have traditionally.
My Project
We are requesting footballs and basketballs. My students participate in these two team sports and are in desperate need of equipment. With recent budget cuts, we are desperate for equipment that is in decent shape and that will be cared for. My students take great pride in their teams and also care about the equipment they use. The footballs and basketballs will have an immediate impact because the school year is coming up very fast. I can not wait until my students are able to play with brand new equipment! They will definitely be smiling huge! Thank you for reading and donating to our project!
