This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are a determined and highly motivated group of young people from rural SC. Many travel long distances by bus to attend HSHP. Our county is entirely Title I and 100% free or reduced-price lunch. These statistics however only work to encourage my students to work towards bettering their futures. By demonstrating this willingness to strive for a better future, it is my mission as their teacher to provide them with the support they need to become independent and responsible scholars.

My Project

Collaborative learning is essential in my classroom. My students are in need of another dry erase board where they can post their ideas during in-class activities. Discussion and the free flow of ideas are essential to a productive learning environment. When conducting independent, in-class discussions, students will be able to post and present ideas as they are being discussed in real time. Having access to a common area where ideas can be shared will also allow my students to freely brainstorm and will act as a way to democratize the learning process by giving all students the ability to share and be heard.
