My students need tie dye kits and basketry supplies to build team building skills in an inter-disciplinary art and social justice project.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Pawson's classroom raised $176

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students are English Language Learners and students with special needs. 100% of my students are living below the poverty line defined by the Board of Education and are exposed to crime and gang activity. They are high school students and they are preparing themselves to enter the world as young adults.
Our school is a safe zone, full of caring individuals who treat our student body as family.
Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, our ability to purchase materials has been cut tremendously. Many of my students would like to pursue higher education or obtain a career in a field relating to the arts. These materials would allow the students to improve their art-making techniques while expanding their portfolios.
My Project
Students in my High School art classes will culminate the year and their hard work with two different team building activities. Funding for this project will allow students to create their own dyed fabric T-Shirt in connection with a social activism unit. Additionally, students will learn basket making skills through an additional extra-curricular activity. Students will learn weaving techniques and be able to use different colored yarn and string to create their very own small storage basket. Students have studied weaving in various forms and will be able to try out their own weaving skills with these supplies and materials!
