This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend an inner city Title 1 school. Our school has a substantial amount of low income and ESL students. Most of my students face daily struggles with more responsibility than a 10 or 11 year-old should need to experience. However, my students come every morning with smiles on their faces and ready to start the day. They enjoy school and are excited to learn new things. Most of my students start the year already years behind in their academics, but I teach my students that every student can learn and do hard things with practice and hard work.
My students inspire me every day; I try to be a better teacher, so that I can give them the learning experience that they deserve.
For most of my students, being at school is the only time they can truly be a kid. Because of this, I try to create an environment of safety while we learn. I tell them that failure is part of success and I will do all that I can to help them succeed. I like to engage my students with real world lessons and activities that they can relate to.
My Project
Dry erase boards are a great teaching tool. There are so many ways to use them to actively engage my students.
I plan to use the whiteboards to engage every student in my lessons.
I will use the whiteboards in math, vocabulary, spelling, science, and language arts. When whiteboards are used I know exactly which students need additional help or clarification. Students can quickly erase and fix their mistakes. Using dry erase boards makes the lesson effective, interactive, and fun.
Whiteboards can be used in a variety of ways. I plan to use them with whole group instruction, small guided groups, and learning centers. Students will keep their own whiteboard in their desk with their dry erase marker and eraser. This will make it easy and convenient for them to quickly pull it out to begin learning. Individual whiteboards will allow me to give daily formative assessments to adjust my teaching and immediate feedback to my students.
Students love them because they’re fun, which makes learning more enjoyable. I love whiteboards because they are a fabulous tool that keeps my entire class actively involved in their learning and I can use their responses to assess and give immediate feedback.
