Teaching With Technology

Help me give my students Chromebooks in order to tackle real world science problems. As a teacher I see the importance of utilizing these computers for STEM and helping my students be successful in my class.

My Students

My 6th grade students are eager to learn, and eager to be engaged in hands-on science. They are filled with many questions and much excitement about science. My class is filled with students from many walks in life, from those that are above grade level in many subjects, to those that fall well below, as well as, some that have very little formal education at all. I have students that speak many languages, to those that have difficulty speaking at all, and also many that are learning English for the first time.

I try my best to captivate my students attention by providing a safe, engaging, and hands-on approach to learning science.

As prepared as I can ever be, every year I am humbled to realize that many of my students do not have the basics that many other 21st century learners have. Among the many needs they have, come the importance of technology. The learned ability to create, manipulate, and construct using technology is essential in today's age.

My Project

When I get to use the limited number of laptops our school has, the results are amazing! The students excitement spills into their work as they are able to use something they usually don't get to. Your donation will go towards brand new touch-screen 2 in 1 Chromebooks! They will be using them in research for projects, tests, and quizzes, but I want to do so much more with them! I want the students to use these in labs, digital touch-screen dissections, web quests, small and large group activities, and online review tools like Kahoot. To many of us we can't even think of a day without our computers, unfortunately, this is the reality many of my students live in.

I get excited when I see my students use technology to develop independence in their pursuit of learning science.

Additionally, my school is working with many of the local Universities to bring in programs that will literally change the way some of my students use technology. This year we will be working with North Carolina State University, where many of their students will be coming into our classrooms to teach coding, while at the same time applying scientific principals. Unfortunately, we need this technology in place first. I hope you will partner with me on this great STEM project.
