My Students

We recite our school mission each morning after the Pledge of Allegiance. "Reach for the stars by meeting and beating your personal best!" Students are reminded of this thinking throughout the day as they engage in learning. I want my students remember they are never done!

My 2nd graders are a very energetic group of kids eager to explore the world around them.

We focus on growing students' understanding of numbers as a system, broadening our purposes for reading and writing, learning about all the different communities we are members of, and studying the diversity of life in several kinds of habitats of the world.

My Project

These tablets enable each student to have their own profile to which I can specifically assign content and activities. In math, students will watch videos to support their understanding of difficult concepts. They will also play games that will help them memorize math facts. In language arts, students will watch videos that support their reading of our weekly student magazine, listen to books being read that may be above a struggling reader's ability level, practice spelling, grammar, and vocabulary through interactive games, and create presentations of their learning for others to view. In social studies, students will watch videos of lives of students in other parts of the world in order to compare and contrast the differences between our own community and communities around the world. Students will also have access in all areas to short review lessons recorded by myself when they encounter difficulty.

The proportion of children in poverty is increasing each year at my school.

As families in our school struggle to meet basic needs, students' exposure to technology decreases. This puts our students at a disadvantage to other students in more affluent schools. Providing tablets for students will not only help them with difficult concepts, skill practice, and presentation, but will also keep them current with using technology.
