My Students

We are from a K-8 school in rural Oklahoma and we are also a Title I school. Many of our students come from low-income families and our school is very much like an extended family for them. Because of the limited experiences my students may have outside of school, I want to ensure they are given opportunities in class to explore the world and amplify their learning. These young learners have a natural curiosity about the world that I would love to indulge.

My Project

There are many ways my Kindergarteners will use iPads in our classroom. Apps like ABCMouse and Starfall encourage language arts and math skills development. Students can also use apps like Koma Koma to create stop motion videos. Parent communication apps such as Seesaw enable students to share their creations with their parents while at school. These young learners can also use the iPads to read books online and just have fun playing games. After all, play is how young children learn!

An iPad will also be used for whole group sight word instruction.

The most effective method I have used for teaching sight words, or high frequency words, is the Sight Word 60 program. This instruction method is enhanced by the use of an iPad when introducing new words.
