Teaching with Tech!

Help me give my students the ability to learn using enhanced technology! I will be able to teach from anywhere in the room while screen casting the iPad and writing on it with the Apple Pencil.

My Students

I teach high school mathematics in El Cajon, just outside of San Diego. The school is very diverse and I get to work with students from a variety of backgrounds.

I teach a majority of freshman classes, and they are very ready for structure and consistency.

It is easy for their short attention spans to get off task and forget what our goals were.

Many of my students speak two languages, and some speak even more. I hope to reach all my students well and encourage them to succeed in mathematics!

My Project

I used to work at a school with smart boards, which I found really awesome -- it was a great use of technology. Additionally during the quarantine I found doing lessons on an iPad with an Apple Pencil through Zoom effective (also provided at my old school). I have switched to a new school and they do not have smart boards but only document cameras and computers that can be presented from.

I would be able to allow students to write their work on the iPad without having to get in front of the class: they can demonstrate their thinking from the comfort of their seats if I let them write on the iPad.

I love being able to write on top of a presentation, but this is not possible with the technology set up that I currently have. With an iPad, I can screencast and present the work on the screen, and also walk around the classroom as I teach.

Clearly, we do not NEED to have an iPad to learn mathematics, as many teachers have been successful for years without it. However, I think it would be a sweet and engaging opportunity to enhance our teaching and learning this year with the limited technology that is provided by the district.
