Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school serves students grades pre-K through fifth. My school is located in an area of Arkansas that could be considered in need of repairs. More than ninety percent of our students participate in a free or reduced-rate lunch program. Our students may be financially disadvantaged but they love to learn!

I am always looking for ways to help bring exciting new materials into the classroom.

My students have limited experiences, so projects like these help make learning come to life.

My Project

My students are so enthusiastic about learning, but sometimes it is hard for them to make sense of the content when I cannot provide colored picture supports.

This year, I have 12 English Language Learners and they often need more support when it comes to learning new reading, math, and science vocabulary.

One of the ways I help them comprehend new vocabulary is by providing them with picture supports. Because our school has limited funds and resources, we do not have consistent access to color printing. The vocabulary cards that I make do not have the same impact when they are printed in black and white. Please help our students get what they need to succeed!
