My students are fun loving, energetic, curious kids. The majority are eating free breakfast and free or reduced lunch. We are a Title 1 school servicing a predominantly Hispanic and Haitian-Creole population. Even though they walk into my room with so many weights on their shoulders, they thrive on new experiences and new information and seem to let it all go while they are within my four walls.
Since they come from a variety of backgrounds and their home lives vary greatly, most of my students are not familiar or comfortable with using technology other than a computer.
They are so eager to learn and are interested in anything new. They are easily motivated by the thought they might be able to use the document camera or the wireless mouse.
I want to give them the opportunity to interact with different devices and increase participation.
My Project
I want my students to learn to use some of the resources available to a 21st century learner. Students will gain abilities of an individual, working independently and with others, to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information.
Using these resources will increase technological literacy as well as participation.
Students will be interacting with the Amazon Echo Dot when looking up words or definitions. They can use it to check math facts or to look up math terms they struggle with during our enrichment lessons.
I will use the Anybook Reader to record myself reading difficult parts of certain mentor texts so students can practice reading the same books on their own.
The students will be able to use the microphone and wireless presenter to practice public speaking skills when presenting to the class.
