No one wants to sit in front of a teacher all day listening to them talk, especially not Kindergartners. They learn through play, hands-on activities and exploration to keep them engaged!
My students are eager, inquisitive, and excited to come to school every day to learn.
For some of them, Kindergarten is their first experience in a school environment. They are exploring new activities, taking risks with new tasks, and building knowledge. My students are learning how to work independently through use of technology, developmental hand-on math centers and literacy centers. They learn how to use play as a tool, while building off of their prior knowledge to grow and develop new skills.
My Project
Think about how technology has changed your life, now imagine the impact it could make in the life a Kindergartner who is just beginning to experience technology for the first time I am requesting two kindle fires for my students to use during our literacy block. They will be able to read online texts, research topics and record themselves talking on a topic.
Some of my students do not have access to resources that other students might have at home.
Many of my students do not have computers or tablets with Internet access at home, so school is their only exposure. .
If my students receive these tablets they will use them during their literacy block. They will be able to read "just right books" that are fit to their individual reading levels with "ReadingAtoZ", a reading program that the school has provided. They also will begin researching animals for their informational writing unit with "PebbleGo", another resource the school has provided. Lastly I would like begin introducing them to apps that allow them to record themselves giving book reviews on their favorite stories to share with the class. Many of these kid friendly programs are in the form of apps as opposed to computers so the Kindle Fires will allow us to have the best of both worlds. I know my students will truly enjoy and benefit using this new technology.
