My Students
Here we are in 2015 yet some students still do not have access to technology at home and are even lacking it in their schools. What if everyday you were able to get your hands-on technology for the purpose of learning more about the world around you and to explore multimedia like never before?
Our school is located in a high poverty, high-needs, crime-ridden area in Brooklyn, NY.
Nearly half of our students live in temporary housing, and the majority of the remainder live in public housing. Outside the school is nothing like the inside, because every day I go to school I encounter 12 of the greatest second graders ever. All of my students come from low-income families, yet they come to school ready to learn, love, and share with others.
These students may have special needs but that doesn't stop their desire to learn. Most of my students lack academic and social skills necessary at the beginning of the year and leave at the end having acquired most of those skills. It is important to have a system of how things work best in the classroom in addition to a variety of resources so that students can learn as best they can and that is what I am trying to create.
My Project
The students will use the tablet devices to explore educational websites and applications that will help them to learn new skills and enforce what has already been taught in class; reading, writing, spelling, and grammar included. They will also be able to explore the world wide web for research and other educational purposes. This will mostly take place during the exploration of learning centers, where students are grouped (3-5 students per group) and spend time doing various activities.
Because our students can't afford them on their own and we have exceeded our school funding, the donations for the tablets would help greatly.
It will not only help expose our students to the use of multimedia for learning but it will also enable us to be creative with out methods of differentiation in the classroom.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
