I teach first grade at a Title 1 School in northwest Georgia. My students come from a multitude of economic and family backgrounds. I love teaching such a wide variety of learners and personalities. It makes my job much more rewarding.
Each and every student comes with their own unique personality and getting to know them on a personal level is my favorite part of the job!
Every year I have students that play a special role in my classroom. There are the caregivers, the class jokers, the quiet, creative minds, and storytellers. Together they form a cohesive group that is whole and wonderful. Together we become a family!
My Project
As an early childhood teacher, one of the most important aspects of my job is helping my students become successful readers and writers. The ability to read is one of the best indicators of future achievement in the classroom. National studies have shown that students who do not read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers.
Each year I teach students from low economic backgrounds who are already behind in their reading abilities.
Resources such as magnetic letters, word building activities, and sentence structure practice will help me to give struggling students the hands-on support younger students thrive on.
My students will benefit tremendously from access to these manipulative and activities and they will additionally aid me in pursuing my goal of developing in each student the ability and love for life-long reading!
