Teaching Tolerance Using Literature

My students need to experience the Logan family. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, The Friendship and The Well are a wonderful tool to teach Historical Fiction.

My Students

My students are from a small rural school. Many students are on free and reduced lunches. I taught middle school for 12 years, third and fourth for 5 years, and now I am moving back to middle school.

My students are eager learners!

My students make our learning environment enjoyable. I have amazing kids and parents. I have around 20 students per class depending on the school year. My students love to read and share stories. If they do not love to read, hopefully that changes before they leave my hands.

I am moving back to middle school. I want to expose my middle school students need to be exposed to literature that evoke emotions. Emotions that will cause them to question actions both in the past and the present. Using literature to teach tolerance and acceptance not only teaches them reading skills, but life long skills of how we need to treat others. Every middle school child needs to read the classic Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry. With your help, this can happen for my kids.
