This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are sweet and loving preschoolers with special needs. They are three to five year olds with different disabilities including autism, speech or language impairment, health impairment, orthopedic impairment, and intellectual disabilities. My students are from low-income families and all English language learners. Some have just arrived to the United States from Mexico with parents who do not speak English. It has been a true blessing to watch them learn and grow each and everyday. Their determination and eagerness to learn is what fuels me. A day in our classroom consists of enthusiasm, energy and excitement. Every accomplishment is celebrated!

My Project

All materials in the social-emotional kit targets feelings, friendship, respect, challenging behaviors, acceptance, and tolerance. This is something every child should be taught at a young age. Developing kindness and compassion for others is a critical part of a child's growth. Through the use of emotion cards, mirrors, books, puppets, puzzles, posters, soft seats for circle time, and a daily schedule chart to support classroom organization, I hope to help my students develop "people skills" that will help them in building positive and meaningful relationships beyond the classroom. This kit will help me teach my students the concept of diversity, and encourage kindness, tolerance and empathy.
