My Students
Kindergarten is a wonderful time of learning and exploration. I believe it is important to help my students build a strong foundation for academic success and to teach them basic life skills to keep them happy and healthy.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds but they all come to school excited for the next adventure.
I teach at an International Baccalaureate Primary Years school with approximately 900 students in Pre-K through 5th grade. Our curriculum focuses on student inquiry-based learning with a global perspective. Under my care is a group of wildly curious kindergarteners who are eager to learn and have fun.
My Project
Our carpet space is a focal point in our kindergarten classroom. We gather there to learn, share, and play. It is also the place we come to work out our problems and learn how to do so respectfully. We sit in an oval so that we can see each other, take turns sharing our different perspectives, and then work together to come up with solutions. My students enjoy these discussions, and I think they value being part of the process.
I am working to incorporate more books about diversity into our story time to teach tolerance and having a space where my students can listen to those stories, share their opinions, and participate in discussions is an essential part of their learning.
For some students, kindergarten is one of their first school experiences, so we spend a lot of time developing interpersonal skills to encourage positive interactions among students. Being able to communicate respectfully, accept the differences of others, and problem-solve are a few of the skills I hope my students carry with them as they grow. Please help us create a safe, comfortable place to develop these critical life skills.
