This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school in New York. My students attend school in one of the poorest congressional districts in the nation-an area with a very high concentration of poverty. Most, if not all, of my students are eligible for free lunch.
The expert in anything was once a beginner.
My students are a hard working group who are persistent and determined to do well in school. They need essential resources to enable them to maximize learning opportunities and help them to do their best work every day.
My Project
The Octopus watches that I am requesting will help my students learn how to manage time effectively.
Teaching time management can and should be fun for kids.
With these watches my students can set alerts and feel empowered while also learning important concepts of time. My students will be able to set alerts for tests, recess, lunch time, and to manage and monitor their time when scheduled for independent reading. The watches can also be used to set timers or alerts for wake-up, homework, or bedtime. The watches can also be used when my students are at home to remind them to practice and develop good hygiene habits--showering or brushing their teeth before going to bed. In addition to teaching time comprehension, these watches will help my students transition from one subject or task to the next! These watches are an essential tool for learning time management, fostering, responsibility, independence and self-esteem. The Octopus watch will help reinforce the idea of schedules and that tasks and assignments need to be completed in specific time frames.
