This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher who specializes in students experiencing Autism in grades 3 to 5 at a Title I School, in a low socio-economic area of Anchorage, Alaska. My students struggle in the areas of social emotional awareness, communication, as well as academic skills. All of my students have attention and sensory sensitivities that require many different tools to calm down and de-escalate when they become upset.
Despite these challenges, my students work through these the best they can to reach their goals and dreams.
These amazing kids are eager to learn new things academically and about themselves. They are bright and can be successful when provided the correct tools. I believe in my students and I want them to believe in themselves as well as know they are loved and supported in our school community.
My Project
Technology is always changing and improving every day. Our students need Chromebooks in the classroom so that they can become familiar with computers; they will also be able to build critical thinking skills, strengthen skills using technology, and empower them to be creative which will make them successful in the future.
My students need as much exposure to technology as possible so that they are ready for the future and confident in the community.
Many of the students do not have access to technology at home, or do not have access to the internet. Our school has Chromebooks, but we currently share the Chromebooks with many teachers. I dream to have a class where students can have access to the internet while being active learners I would like for them to find information by themselves and share that knowledge to other students in the classroom while keeping up with the latest technology advancements.
