Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 4 and 5-year-old Pre-K students are culturally diverse and live in an Urban area of NJ. Most come from minority families of low socioeconomic status, they qualify for free or reduced lunch programs and have parents who can't speak English. Despite these factors my students are happy, energetic, inquisitive, and enthusiastic kids. They are indeed very active kids but yet curious and eager to learn and always willing to try new things.
Many of my students came to my classroom in September lacking language skills and vocabulary but despite these difficulties, they always showed interest and a desire to learn!
That is what makes this age group stand out from other age groups. They are inquisitive, risk-takers regardless of their abilities and when given the opportunity they will take on new challenges.
My Project
Kids today as young as 2 years old know how to navigate electronic devices, and it is what interests them the most. That is why it is vastly important to me that I deliver my lesson in the most effective way that I can. My students are culturally diverse, and they lack the opportunity of having this type of technology that can provide different ways of learning. A technology-driven classroom allows for the most effective and engaging lessons considering they are technology savvy. Digital technology provides kids with one more outlet for them to demonstrate their creativity and learning. Preschool year children are developing a sense of initiative and creativity. That is why I’m asking for a laptop. Specifically, the MacBook because it allows me to do podcasting, it is known for not getting viruses and it is compatible with the new technology devices that we use in our district. Podcasting which I feel is essential for this age group because it would help enhance listening skills and target their interest. In addition, this will help me facilitate an ongoing and effective learning environment. It will also give me access to new resources that I will be able to personalize instruction. Because students are already familiar with the use of technology, I want to engage them with more interactive experiences by using apps and resources that they can use at home as well especially considering what is going on now. Unfortunately, we are all going through something that has changed the world we know. Since we are now not teaching the traditional way, now more than ever I need this device so that I can better assist and provide resources and activities to help continue facilitate the ongoing learning process.
