This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching kindergarten and am passionate about helping my students get the best start to their school career. I want to inspire them to love school and love learning from the very beginning. My teaching style and philosophy involves experiences to create a multi-sensory learning environment.
I teach in a low income urban setting filled with English Language Learners.
All of my little kindergarten friends receive free lunch and breakfast at school every day. My students' families are hard working, dedicated, devoted parents and grandparents representing many different countries and languages, who want to see their children get the best start to their educational careers. They are just as passionate about their child's education as I am.
My amazing little English Language Learning friends face many challenges before they even walk in the door to school. We work hard as a team to create a safe, loving, structured environment in which we can learn together. All of my little friends are always so incredibly excited to come to school every day because learning is always different, fun and thrilling in our classroom!
My Project
As five and six year old English language learners it is so important to have hands-on materials to explain concepts being taught. Many of my friends are still learning English, so to have tangible things to touch, explore and play with is vital to learning, especially for math! The magnetic ten frames and magnetic foam counters will help my little students fluently learn to add and subtract to ten. They will be able to actually touch the double sided counters and put them on the board to create a story problem. Then they will write the addition or subtraction problem in numeric form on the board below the ten frames and the counters in the space proved on the board.
By donating to our classroom you will be contributing to my philosophy of learning by helping to create a multi-sensory environment in which we will learn math!
My amazing little ELL learners will have a new way to learn to add and subtract thanks to your generous donation! Thank you so much for reading this and hopefully donating to our classroom!
