Poverty becomes a reality when there are limited resources, limited opportunities, and limited outreach programs. Our small neighborhood school houses some of the largest numbers of displaced and/or homeless students in our state.
My students are faced with the task of becoming 21st-century learners with limited digital literacy opportunities.
They are bright, inquisitive, and ready to learn, but the tools to keep ahead in this fast-paced digital world are often out of their reach.
My students live in an area surrounded by businesses that are supported by careers in engineering, aviation, and computer science. They are eager to interact with the world around them and become digital citizens. My students are ready to learn how to effectively locate, organize, understand, evaluate, and analyze information using digital technology.
With the goal of 1:1 devices in my classroom, these five tablets will be a great start to fostering individualized student learning and digital literacy education.
I plan to use these tablets with the online component of our reading program that allows students to not only revisit but further their understanding of the skills and strategies from our lessons.
Secondly, our school purchased an online learning program that aids in filling learning gaps through fun and interactive online games and skill practices in reading and math. The tablets would allow greater learning opportunities.
Lastly, I plan to use the devices to promote STEM education in the classroom with coding activities and more.
The addition of tablets in our classroom would benefit my students in ways that would foster a more engaging and positive learning community.
