This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a small, rural school located in St. Martinville, Louisiana. We currently have five hundred and four students. The school consists of 70.7% African Americans, 25.9% white students, 2.6% Latino and .7% Hispanic. Our students come from very economically disadvantaged families who struggle to provide basic needs for their children. My school serves students in grades 2-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment for students. My school is a Leader in Me School and a STEM school.
My Project
We do small groups throughout the day especially when we are working with our STEM activities. It is extremely important to have an area where the teacher can assist those students who may be struggling with these STEM activities. This teaching table would able me to work with these students that may need just a little more additional help. Besides using this table during STEM activities, we would also use it during our Math Centers. The students who are struggling with math concepts would be able to work in a small group at this table with the teacher to get the skills they are struggling with reinforced.
