Help me give my students an iPad, case, and stand for the opportunity to learn how to search for books in the online library catalog. Most students have already used an iPad and learning will be easier for them with this device.

My Students
There is no one definition to describe the complexity of the students that make up our elementary school. Some students are performing better than average. However, as the librarian, I regularly work with second and third graders who cannot read.
Regardless of their academic abilities, our students are some of the most resilient and lovely kids that I’ve come across working the past several years in education.
They love our library as much as I do and I see the excitement in their faces each day when they attend library time. There is true happiness when they discover a book that resonates with their culture and background.
One 5th grade student always comes in during recess to see if I have a new Star Wars graphic novel he can check out.
My kindergarten students love when I read “Pig the Pug” to see what lessons he will learn with the help of his pal Trevor.
The school library is more than just an inventory of books, it is the heart of reading at our school.
My Project
We use Follett Destiny to catalog our library books at our elementary school. Our students, especially the 3rd through 5th graders, need to be ready to use this tool when they move on to middle school. Most have already used an iPad or Kindle device at home, so learning our complex library program will be less intimidating on an iPad provided by DonorsChoose.
Currently, our elementary school library does not have a computer to support the needs of students searching for books in our library.
They normally ask me, the librarian, to look up a subject, author, or specific book. I would like to teach our students how to use the online catalog with the iPad, case, and stand so they can be more self-sufficient.
When they learn this program, they can also use it from home and look up books within our library and place book holds. This iPad will be a welcome addition to the library and help our students be more independent when searching and checking out books.
