My students need an iPad and an iPod shuffle in order to access educational apps and music during math and literacy lessons.

My Students
My students have special needs. They are loving, funny, and active children but they also happen to have autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities.
They attend a special education school in NYC.
They love to come to school, but hate doing schoolwork! Sure, some of it is because they are typical kids that get bored, but they have a lot of deficits. They have sensory-processing, attentional, fine and gross motor, and language issues that interfere with their ability to learn. This makes learning frustrating for them. They learn to hate to do schoolwork. My paraprofessionals and I try to make school fun by making the lessons interactive and hands-on.
My Project
You could help my students learn by providing us with an iPad and an iPod shuffle. My class would use this highly motivating technology to use interactive apps that supplement my lessons. The iPad is a device that all of my students enjoy (they actually hate the computer) and are able to use. I would use various apps to teach the students new vocabulary, math concepts, and how to read. We would use the iPad to watch educational videos about abstract concepts such as feelings or germs.
The iPod Shuffle would be used during "listening center" in order to listen to educational songs and follow along in the books or read aloud stories. They also need some time to calm down from a particularly tough moment and this calms them down.
This project is so important to me because I see how effective the iPad and iPod shuffle would be to my students.
They have special needs that makes learning difficult for them. This would be something that they could independently use that they can learn from and enjoy. It would make learning fun and encourage them to continue to want to explore the world around them.
