Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a high poverty area. Many of my students are below grade level in math. They desperately need something to help them get excited about money concepts! My goal is for them to walk in my classroom and be eager about learning and practicing essential math and financial literacy skills.
I teach second grade in a low income school district.
Many of our students lack support at home. My students enjoy learning when technology is integrated into the curriculum. Students in second grade love to play computer games and interact with technology. We have a wonderful new Promethean ActivBoard in our classroom to meet their needs.
My Project
With this proposal, I am trying to give my students the opportunity to learn money concepts with innovative technology. To maximize our ActivBoard experience, I am requesting a set of ActiVote response clickers. These remotes allow students to connect with the ActivBoard and respond to questions about word problems involving counting the amount of coins, giving change, and figuring out if they have enough money to buy certain items. These clickers will be a great way to incorporate technology and do money counting activities and interactive games to keep the students motivated. I would like to use the clickers for the Promethean board to play math games to further improve students' understanding of challenging math standards. We can also use this program to test students' progress as the technology may motivate them to try harder and to be excited about learning math and financial literacy.
