My students need deep tubs to be able to engage in sensory activities such as sand, beans, or rice. We also need a small easel for literacy activities.

My Students
Have you ever put your hand in a bowl of rice? Or played with sand? My students with autism love to do that too! They have sensory integration issues and interacting with simple things such as sand or rice soothe them. We need bigger tubs in order to have more fun and less mess.
My students are children with special needs.
They attend a special education school in NY. They are loving, engaging, funny, active, and silly. They may act differently or need extra help learning, but they are still children. They love to play with sand, rice, beans, and play dough. They love to read books and play with magnetic letters. They love to listen to music and dance. They love to learn!
My Project
I am requesting a set of four tubs that can be filled with sand, rice, beans, etc. My kids love to interact with different sensations while learning about concepts such as empty/full, heavy/light, or how to measure. They are deep enough that they can hold a lot, but have lipped edges that prevent messes.
The other item I am requesting is a small easel that will aid me and my educational paraprofessionals in teaching the students throughout the day. We will use it for morning routine, literacy lessons, and writing skills. It is the perfect size for our tiny classroom.
My project is so important because it will help my students to learn.
Education is the most important part of all of our lives, especially for those with special needs. They may need more time, extra support, or inventive teaching strategies to succeed in school, but the skills they learn are skills that will help them navigate the world as independently as possible. I want to affect their lives in a positive way and these materials will help me to do so.
